Seán Ó Faoláin International Short Story Competition is now open for entries.

Submission Guidelines

  • Open to original, unpublished and unbroadcast short stories in English.
  • Open to writers of any nationality, anywhere in the world.
  • No restriction on subject or style.
  • Multiple entries are permitted.

Judge: Laura Jean McKay, author of The Animals in That Country (Scribe 2020) – winner of the prestigious Arthur C Clarke Award, The Victorian Prize for Literature, the ABIA Small Publishers Adult Book of the Year and co-winner of the Aurealis Award for Best Science Fiction Novel 2021.

Entry fee: €19 per story

1st Prize
  • €2,000
  • Featured reading at the Cork International Short Story Festival (with four-night hotel stay and full board)
  • Publication in Southword
2nd Prize
  • €500
  • Publication in Southword
Four Runners-Up
  • €400
  • Publication in Southword
