The 2025 Best in Rural Writing Contest is open for submissions.

Submission Guidelines

• Open to fiction and non-fiction entries.
• No minimum word count, 7,000 words maximum.
• Entries must be connected to the theme ‘the rural’.
• Open to everyone in the world.
• The work can have already been published (or scheduled to be published), as long as it was not published before January 2024.

Judges: Jamie Guiney, literary fiction writer from County Armagh, Northern Ireland.

Entry fee: $10

Prizes:

• $500 first place
• $200 runner-up
• Publication in 2026 Best in Rural Writing print anthology
