Ireland’s Own is an iconic publication which is now over 100 years old. Writer Eileen Casey is a regular contributor, publishing memoir, travel, literature and social history articles.

‘A Fascination with Fabric,’ takes its title from a memory inspired by the author’s growing up in a house where her mother was a dressmaker. It covers a broad range of topics: One City, One Book, 2014, the passing of Seamus Heaney, Poets at the Whitehouse, Limerick, Meeting William Trevor, The Bayno (The History of the Iveagh Trust), John Hewitt and the Glens of Antrim to driving De Valera’s car at Ennis Library, being crowned Miss Mod in the ‘70’s in a dancehall in Rathcabbin, Co Offaly, chimney cleaning, travels in the Alps, Kentucky, Forest Bathing on La Gomera, among a host of others. This unique collection is informative, entertaining and diverse . ‘In the Beginning,’ was short-listed for The Fish Memoir Prize, 2014. Other prose awards include Listowel Writers’ Week, Age & Opportunity Letter Writing Awards and An Post Writing Prize. ‘From the Royal School,’ (a memoir poem) first appeared in Glenn Patterson’s Literary Miscellany in The Ulster Tatler.
Eileen Casey, originally from the Midlands, lives in South Dublin. Her collections include poetry (New Island), fiction (Arlen House) and Prose (Arlen House). The recipient of a Hennessy Literary Award (Emerging Fiction), she also received a Patrick and Katherine Kavanagh Poetry Fellowship. She holds an M.Phil in Creative Writing from The School of English, The Oscar Wilde Centre, Trinity College, Dublin.
Eileen has also published ‘The Jane Austen Sewing Kit’ (A Creative Writing Anthology). A new online magazine, Brilliant Flash Fiction is now accepting submissions of short stories of 1,000 words or less.
