The Children’s Poet of the Year Competition at Hawk’s Well theatre is free to enter and closes on the 1st of June. They are celebrating the 150th anniversary of the birth of W.B. Yeats. Every year they choose a poem by W.B. Yeats to inspire them. This year’s poem is A Crazed Girl and you can visit their website to read the poem.
The competition is open to primary school students. Submit a poem, in any style or form. It must have five lines and be called A Crazed Girl. Submit a max of three poems per person.
The winning school will get a €100 voucher from the Hawk’s Well Theatre to use towards their next booking and a trip for the whole class to Eagles Flying, Ballymote, a centre for birds of prey and owls.
Prizes for the poet include a family pass to The Gaiety Cinema, Sligo. The winning poem will also be printed and displayed in The Hawk’s Well Theatre, in the Sligo Champion and Sligo County Libraries and will be read at the prize-giving ceremony on Yeats Day 13th June 2015.
